As Creative Director for Emo Night Brooklyn, I led the seasonal rebranding efforts for one of Burwood Media’s most popular events. This rebrand included a new logo, all-new assets for print, social, and promotional content. The rebrand was designed to evoke nostalgia for the early days of emo culture, reflecting on the time when the genre first emerged. To capture this sense of nostalgia, I used vintage electronics and retro elements that the emo community was nostalgic for when emo music was gaining popularity. I developed a distinctive visual identity centered around a vintage TV set, which became the cornerstone of the campaign. Inside the TV screen, I featured an image of a lively audience, capturing the high energy and passion of our events, adding a layer to the branding that reflects the fun and vibrant atmosphere of Emo Night Brooklyn. To amplify the nostalgic feel, I incorporated dark cloudy skies behind the characters, creating a melancholic backdrop that resonates with emo music’s emotional depth. The vintage, glitchy video tape texture ties everything together, enhancing the retro TV theme and reinforcing the connection to early emo aesthetics. These elements pay homage to the beginnings of emo culture and create a cohesive, immersive branding experience that deeply resonates with the event’s audience.
Social Assets
I created Instagram posts with a four-panel square layout to effectively display the extensive event schedule. Each post features a continuous panoramic image and is shared weekly in four distinct variations to keep the visuals fresh. Incorporating vintage elements like TVs, old computers, phones, and boomboxes ensures each post stands out while presenting the event information in a visually engaging manner.
Additional social assets were created to promote weekend shows and highlight guest appearances.
Promotional Video
I created an animated video for Emo Night Brooklyn, seamlessly integrating our TV head character branding. The video features promotional content displayed within the TV, designed to captivate viewers, boost engagement, and drive ticket sales.
On-Stage Graphics
I designed a branded QR code that allows audience members to easily request songs, creating an interactive experience. Additionally, I animated branded visual loops that align with emo/punk culture, which were displayed on stage throughout the event. These visuals not only elevate the atmosphere but also immerse the audience, enhancing the overall experience.
Emo Night Brooklyn 9 Year Anniversary
For the 9-Year Anniversary party of Emo Night Brooklyn, I developed creative assets and designs for social media and promotional content centered around the concept of the number nine taking over NYC as though it was some kind of alien invasion being cast from the sky, rising from the ground. Using a grunge/glitch effect, I emulated textures and visuals consistent with our previous assets to ensure cohesive emo branding. The successful execution of this branding and marketing campaign contributed to the event being a sold-out success.
9 Year Anniversary Intro Video
For the 9-Year Anniversary party of Emo Night Brooklyn, I created a 1 minute and 30-second animated intro video that set the tone for the night. The animation begins with the number 9 dramatically rising from the ground amidst alarming sirens and static noise, transitioning into a montage of the best moments from past Emo Night Brooklyn events. To amplify the excitement and vibe, I incorporated visual effects throughout the video, enhancing the intensity and energy. This video, celebrating music, community, and unforgettable memories, was strategically played at the beginning of the event to build suspense, capture the audience’s attention, and amp up the crowd right before the night officially kicked off.
Visual Loops
I created special animated visual loops designed for the 9 year anniversary show to make a strong impact and excite the audience. These visuals were crafted to stand out, giving the anniversary event a unique vibe that set it apart from our regular shows.
